Nokia 8600 LUNA (73)

In summary, we feel that this is an excellent alternative to the 8800 Sirocco phone - it costs about the same, and it's going to be just as exclusive. In many ways it's a better phone with an improved LCD screen, a better keypad and the benefit of quadband. On the negative side it lacks a memory card slot and is rather heavy (just like the Sirocco), but the Nokia 8-series phones are about looks and exclusivity first and the 8600 offers both of these.

Canon EOS 40D (91)

This DSLR from Canon performs so well that finding something to criticize about it was difficult. Although it is missing some features compared to other cameras in its class, nearly everything that the Canon EOS 40D does, it does very well.

Olympus EVOLT E-510 (87)

Literally the bigger brother of the current E-410 DSLR, the E-510’s chief advantage is that any lens attached becomes immediately stabilised.

Kodak EasyShare Z1275 (57)

For those after a small yet powerful camera to capture high-resolution shots, the 12 megapixel Kodak EASYSHARE Z1275 will do the trick. Its pictures aren't the best we've seen, but they should satisfy many users.

Samsung SGH-t729 Blast (65)

The sexy Samsung Blast SGH-T729 is a great messaging phone with good call quality, but we were hoping for a speedier data network as well.

Canon PowerShot A720 IS (84)

Big savings on an excellent camera. DCHQ heartily endorses the A720 IS as great choice for casual or novice users looking for an easy-to-use point-and-shoot digital camera.

Canon PowerShot SD850 IS/IXUS 950 IS (86)

So far, the Canon PowerShot SD850 IS is my favorite compact digital camera for 2007. The Canon PowerShot SD850 IS goes anywhere in my pocket and takes great pictures almost all the time. It’s the best all-round point-and-shoot digital camera I’ve used yet.

Canon PowerShot SD870 IS/IXUS 860 IS (82)

The IS adds to its versatility and convenience—you can take close ups of small insects, use it indoors at a nightclub and capture shots that would otherwise be completely blurry without a tripod.

Motorola RAZR2 V9m (77)

Call quality was excellent and both the internal volume and speakerphone was plenty loud for us. Talk time was above the rated time of approx. 3 hours, and instead around 4 hours.

Canon PowerShot A560 (82)

If you have just a little more money, you might consider the A570 IS, which adds a few higher-end features from the ELPH series in about the same form factor, as well as an image-stabilized lens for sharper shots under dim lighting. If you're just looking for a simple, good-performing digital camera to get started with though, the Canon A560 is hard to beat.

BlackBerry 8820 (83)

With the 8820, RIM has essentially taken an already fantastic business tool and by adding Wi-Fi, made it even better. It's what the 8800 should have been from the start.

Leica M8 (80)

Well then, is the Leica M8 a real Leica M worthy of standing side by side with its illustrious 35mm counterparts, the MP and M7? On balance, we’d have to say, yes. While no digital camera can expect to be pre-eminent for decades at a time like the 35mm M Leicas, and the M8 will inevitably be surpassed in five years by the Leica M9 with more megapixels and even better image quality, the Leica M8 is about as good as it can be given the current state of digital imaging technology.

Sony Cybershot DSC-H7 (79)

The H7 is also a strong performer, displaying excellent color accuracy, low noise levels, and a lot of detail in captured images. As with all digital cameras, there are a few downers on the H7 – the poor resolution on the LCD and the intrusive lens hood being the most notable – but they aren’t enough to cancel out the other great features and impressive image quality at the retail price of $399.

Nokia N76 (67)

We must not forget that this is a powerful 3G smartphone with a good music player. The camera seems shy of megapixels at only 2 megapixels. The 3.5mm jack problem we can live with but can imagine the type of posts this will feed on our 3G Forum.

BlackBerry 8300 Curve (82)

Overall, however, I found the Curve a seductive alternative to other candy-bar phones with wide-aspect-ratio screens, such as the Samsung Blackjack and the T-Mobile Dash. If AT&T's price is right, the Curve could well become the hot PDA/phone of the moment.
