Priced at $399, the HP Photosmart R927 may be out of the range of the budget buyer, but it is a worthy investment for someone looking for a camera that’s easy to use. It also produces excellent photos, even if sometimes they’re a little less than real.

HP has thought long and hard about how to improve their cameras, resulting in a number of new and exciting technologies they have dubbed ‘Real Life’. Now the R927 is cheaper it’s a good buy – not necessarily for its image quality, which is average. However, the panorama stitching is jaw-droppingly good.

IT Reviews

The Photosmart R927 manages to be versatile and easy to use at the same time; not an easy feat. It could do with more internal memory than the 32MB supplied, or an SD card included in the box, but overall it’s a quality compact that you should at least try before deciding whether to opt for one of the more obvious manufacturers.

Unfortunately you can’t judge this book by its cover. Using a car analogy – from an exterior design point of view it’s an Audi, but it’s got the engine of a Gremlin. Personally, I wouldn’t buy the HP R927 because it’s too big, the loud auto focus is annoying, and image quality is poor.

The middling lens on this camera is compensated for by above average software and features like the built-in help menu. Once you have accepted the unconventional styling, it is average to use. This isn’t a camera to fall in love with. However, if you want a practical good value camera with some very good software this is a strong contender.
