What is more disappointing are the limitations placed on both audio and any connectivity options. With the former you are stuck with the built-in microphone that is positioned on the front of the DC100 with no external microphone input available. This built-in microphone has a tendency to pick up any extraneous noise emanating from the camcorder itself.

The DC100 is a fine choice for an entry-level DVD camcorder, but you can do better with your hard-earned dollars. Climb up the chain to a mid-level DVD camcorder, where the video quality becomes acceptable, or look towards tape.

CNET (64)

The good: Fast focusing, long zoom lens; solid image stabilization; decent low-light video; aperture- and shutter-priority exposure modes.

The bad: Fair-to-middling video quality overall; awkward navigation controls; poor still photos.

The bottom line: A basic, inexpensive DVD camcorder, the Canon DC100 is a safe, if unremarkable, choice.

Good Gear Guide (60)

Above average video quality is countered by a lack of an SD card slot and poor quality stills on this DVD camcorder. A good option for the buyer on a tight budget.

Camcorder Info (56)

We don’t mean to hurt anybody’s feelings, but there is almost no reason to buy this camcorder. Do yourself a favor: pass on it. If you’re already sold on the convenience of DVD and this is your price range, take a good look at the Canon DC10 and Panasonic VDR-D100.
