I see not much difference between the SD450 and SD400, aside from the LCD screen size. Even the image quality was very similar. I recommend Canon SD450 if you want a miniature, cool yet capable camera with 5-megapixels that produces excellent photos with print sizes of up 11×14 inches and has a large 2.5-inch screen. If you don’t need the 2.5-inch screen, you can save $30-50 by getting the SD400. Both cameras are capable performers, and look cool too!

Overall, the SD450 is an impressive pocket camera that never makes you wait. It takes the best pictures and video of any model in its class and offers an unbeatable combination of style and ease of use.

Imaging Resource (90)

Widely available as of this writing for under $300, the Canon PowerShot SD450 is an excellent little pocket camera, with a full feature set, super build quality, great image quality, and the flexibility to bring back good-looking pictures from a wide range of shooting situations. All considered, an excellent little camera at an attractive price, and an easy choice as a Dave’s Pick.

Steve's Digicams (86)

Bottom line – Canon has produced yet another winning digital combination of sleek compact design, speedy performance and great image quality. With the camera taking up less space than a deck of playing cards, it can be carried in almost any size pocket or handbag. So if you’re in the market for an extremely pocketable 5-megapixel digicam, be sure to take a look at this model.

BIOS Magazine (85)

Overall, it’s a great all-around camera for anyone, and would make a good second camera for enthusiasts who don’t want to lug along their bells-and-whistles digital SLR.

Digital Photography Interface (82)

A great camera for stills and movies but could be improved in a few areas. If you can bear with the below average battery life (just get one or two extra battery packs) and do most shooting in bright places, then this is the camera for you. SD400 owners should not upgrade yet. This camera deserves a thumbs up and recommendation from me.

Think Camera (80)

Style for the snapper: this is a perfect second camera for the opportunist snapper that can be with you at all times, even tucked into your shirt pocket. The style conscious with also love its sleek design. And it won’t break the bank.

Photography Blog (80)

So the Canon Digital IXUS 55 is obviously not going to satisfy everyone, as it doesn’t offer full manual control over aperture and shutter speeds and the image quality is not best in class, but if you want a stylish ultra-compact camera, the IXUS is well worth considering.

The Canon IXUS 55 is a very good digital camera. Picture quality compares well with similar models and I really like the design and style. Well worth a close look.

PC Mag (80)

This isn’t the cheapest ultracompact around, and with more and more cameras coming out at 6, 7, 8, and even 9 megapixels, you might feel that 5MP is behind the curve. Most users looking for a superportable will be quite happy with the image quality and performance. We wish there were some manual controls and a better menu interface to make it more user-friendly. But if image quality is what you’re after, the Canon PowerShot SD450 is one of the best 5MP ultracompacts on the market.

CNET (74)

The Canon PowerShot SD450, a 5-megapixel update to the SD400 Digital Elph, has more in common with its 4-megapixel SD300 sibling than it does with the top-of-the-line 7-megapixel SD550. What you get for your extra money is improved image quality—and that might be enough.

Digital Photography Review (72)

But at the end of the day everything that made the SD400 so attractive as a package is also true for the SD450 – and then some. It’s a beautifully made and reliable point-and-shooter that is easy and fun to use, and one that produces surprisingly good results where it counts, and one that – even with the niggles mentioned above – is perfectly designed to satisfy its target market.

Windows A to Z! (60)

In review, the Canon PowerShot SD450 digital camera is perfect for any casual picture taker that just wants a compact camera that can take a quick picture and then can be put back into a pocket quickly. It also does most of the image correction itself, so it’s a no-fuss camera for the novice.
