Consumer Guide (100)

This unit works well as a simple point-and-shoot model, but it also provides a few manual-setting features for more experienced photographers. You can purchase a few add-on lenses to give this model wide-angle and zoom capabilities. The PowerShot A630 also can make use of an add-on flash unit.

Digital Camera Resource (94)

The Canon PowerShot A630 and A640 are two very capable digital cameras that are suitable to beginners and advanced users alike. They offer far more than most cameras in this price range, which is why they earn my enthusiastic recommendation. I would recommend the A630 for most people, as it performs as well as the A640 in most situations, and it costs $100 less.

Steve's Digicams (92)

Bottom line – last year we said “Canon has struck gold” with the A620 and A610, and this year they have done it yet again. With an MSRP of just US$299, I feel the Canon PowerShot A630 offers and outstanding value for such a capable 8-megapixel model. Therefore, we feel it will make an excellent choice for anyone in the market for an affordable model with excellent image quality, speedy performance, and a wealth of exposure modes, all packed in a stylish, yet rugged metal/plastic shell. If you need a bit more resolution, and like Canon’s Remote Capture feature, then check out the 10-megapixel A640, which can be had for about $100 more.

As with previous models in the Powershot series the A630 offers class, style, excellent image quality, swift performance, and a huge array of exposure modes. Plus it also allows you to attach extra lenses (if required.) and did I mention the camera burps out 8 MP images as well?

Imaging Resource (88)

Bottom line, like its brother the A640, the Canon A630 is a classic; just an excellent all-around digital camera, and an easy choice as a Dave’s Pick.

IT Reviews (85)

The PowerShot A630 is a useful compact digital camera with a lot of features for the money. It’s good to see the high resolution and flexible LCD monitor being included in a camera in this price bracket, but some other shortcuts, such as the low capacity supplied memory card and awkward controls, detract from the overall spec.

The Canon Powershot A630 is another solid offering from Canon. With manual exposure controls, a more than reasonable price tag and good picture quality the Powershot A630 is likely to be a big seller. Recommended.

I am really searching my memory and I doubt that I have ever looked at a poor or bad Canon camera this certainly would be a perfectly good buy, not – in my opinion – quite as good as the Canon Ixus800iS reviewed 9/8/06 that got the coveted 5×5 award but still a perfectly acceptable unit.

The 8MP Canon PowerShot A630 may be a bit bulky for a compact camera, but the great physical controls and easy-to-use features will appeal to those who appreciate a variety of settings to capture their photos.

Canon has done well with the Powershot A630. This compact digital camera has a complete feature set including full-manual controls, manual focus and custon white-balance. The A630 handles well and produces rather images with nicely saturated colors, good sharpness, exposure and low-noise up to ISO 100.
