Positives: Very good image quality outdoor. High res large monitor. Very effective optical stabilizer. No distortion with standard photos. No chromatic aberration. Starry Sky mode that allows exposures up to 60 seconds. Solidly built. Negatives: Compression a bit too strong at the Fine setting. Some noise at all ISO levels.16:9 mode not as well implemented as it should be.

There are so many things to like about the Panasonic DMC FX01. This is a high quality point and shoot camera with a number of extra features thrown in. These include a wide angle lens and image stabilisation. All things considered the DMC FX01 offers great value for money.

If the wide lens and compact size are important to you, the FX01 is a no-brainer, and even if they aren’t, this is a camera it’s easy to recommend – especially if you don’t really need high ISO performance.

The Panasonic Lumix FX-01 has a lot going for it. The wide angle zoom is unique in a camera of this size, the LCD screen is fantastic quality,as is the general fit and finish of the camera. The noise levels are the most disappointing aspect of this camera, at ISO80 there is already a noticeable level of noise present and by ISO 400 the image quality has deteriorated further.

The Lumix FX01 proves to be a compact shooter that performs, just like its previous incarnations, though it misses the mark in terms of image quality.

The processor is less efficient than the Canon, however. It’s true, the Ixus 800-IS is more expensive but it gave better results for all tests. It’s fast, a little more precise, its colors are a little more accurate (the FX01’s are a little warmer), and the video mode is a little less precise.

Digital Camera Magazine (60)

A well made and really great looking, almost begging to be loved however its not quite right. It could have been such a great camera. The Leica lens is sharp and the 28mm wide angle has been a long time coming on such a small camera. But the poor image quality at ISO values above 100 really lets it down.

The Panasonic Lumix FX01 is a promising camera which unfortunately trips-up where it counts. Image quality is sub-par with noise visible starting at ISO 80 and increasing rapidly from there.
