For a phone that’s clearly in its own class, and being Nokia’s best premium phone so far, I suppose the bigger-than-expected price tag would be well worth it. Remember, you’re not buying technology – but also Nokia’s latest piece of fine art.

There’s no doubt that the Nokia 8801 is one of the most elegant handsets we’ve ever tested, and we love its impressive syncing options, robust music player and bright display. But this stainless-steel gem is starting to show its age, especially when it comes to its sub-par camera and missing memory expansion, and it’s saddled with a staggering price tag and poor battery life.

The difference between both is the RAZR is designed to be a high-end mass model, while the 8800 emphasized uniqueness and prestige. Unfortunately, besides the design, the 8800 does not offer anything more then a regular mid-range phone.

Made from top-quality materials, the Nokia 8801 feels like a luxury item. But its high price and relatively thin set of features (groundbreaking stereo Bluetooth music playback notwithstanding) prevent it from being the RAZR-killer it could be.

The cell-phone maker’s fashion-forward new model isn’t as user-friendly as the price tag might lead one to expect.
