Perfect for people who want to stay on top of their email as well as stay connected wherever they roam, the crimson and black Samsung Blast slider-style phone is an affordable alternative to smartphones. Available exclusively from T-Mobile, it communicates over GSM/GPRS and EDGE networks and offers quad-band network capabilities for global connectivity. It’s first T-Mobile phone to provide direct access to personal e-mail-including AOL email, Yahoo! Mail and Gmail-in addition to text and instant messaging. Composing messages is easy thanks to the hybrid QWERTY keypad that uses SureType technology, also found on RIM’s BlackBerry smartphones.

CNETThe sexy Samsung Blast SGH-T729 is a great messaging phone with good call quality, but we were hoping for a speedier data network as well. |

About.comThe Samsung Blast is not a bad phone nor an exceptional one. Its best qualities are its design and general performance but the camera (and sometimes the sound quality) was below-average. The Blast could be a good choice for non-frequent callers that are not too picky on sound and camera but have a strong interest in text messaging and instant messaging and can’t afford more advanced text messaging cell phones. |

Phone ScoopIn the wide range of T-Mobile’s messaging devices, the Blast’s small size, great signal strength and reasonable battery life should make it the best choice for most users looking for a messaging phone. But unfortunately the Blast is not – a blast – to use. You should still check out the full range of T-Mobile’s messaging armada if you’re considering this phone. |

Tech-Faq.comThe Samsung Blast-SGH-T729 is a great phone that really doesn’t fit into one given niche. If you need a phone for the office, this is not it. If you want a phone that has some awesome features, this isn’t what you need. But, if you are looking for a device that can fit both categories fairly well, the Samsung Blast-SGH-T729 is your device. |

phone ArenaWell, the Blast was a good phone overall. There are some things to consider before going out and buying it however. First, if you live on your phone, you better have a charger on you at all times and make use of every plug that comes your way. Otherwise you just might find yourself stranded with an 80g paperweight. |

infoSync WorldThe Blast could have been a better phone. With a snazzier interface, and robust yet simple messaging options, the Blast could have been a much more interesting messaging phone. Also, except for business users, we can’t imagine an audience looking for advanced messaging options, but minimal multimedia. As it stands, the Blast feels like a first generation product, and we’d like to see a refinement once T-Mobile finally rolls out its 3G network. |

LAPTOP MagazineIf your T-Mobile priorities lean more toward messaging, the Sidekick ID is a better choice for your money, even though we’re not big fans of that device, either. On the other hand, the Sidekick isn’t as svelte as the Blast, and it lacks the Blast’s MP3 capabilities. If talking, listening and shooting pictures are as important to you as e-mail and messaging, we’d recommend spending $50 more for the BlackBerry Pearl. |
