The impressive 2.5-inch Super Bright LCD generates approximately 1,200 cd/m2 of luminescent output, making the monitor even easier to view when outdoors. The EX-Z850 includes the latest version of the Exilim Engine, featuring the Anti Shake DSP which considerably reduces the incidence of blurred images due to shaky hands or moving subjects, so you only have to worry about which shots to take, not how they will come out. In response to user’s high demand, the EX-Z850’s Super Life Battery supports 440 shots per charge (CIPA standards), providing convenient, long-lasting usability.

Perhaps a general comment about cameras like the EX-Z850: they are so useful, so powerful, and so easy to carry around that many people do just that, they take them along wherever they go. The Casio can handle that and it never failed, but its solid, gleaming body does show a bit of wear and tear. It fell twice, just from a few inches, but that was enough each time to leave small scratches and dents.

About

The Casio EX Z850 digital camera is heavily marketed as an eBay digital camera, as it features an “eBay Best Shot” shooting mode. There is much more to this 8.1-megapixel compact digital camera, though. It is slim and stylish, features an oversized LCD screen, an anti-shake system and a whopping 34 shooting modes.

This is a more than capable camera which should give years of great service – even when technology in 2010 will make us snicker at the “mere” 8MP of this model. The Casio Exilim EX-Z850 has my highest recommendation for this class of camera!

I bought one of these for myself and carry it everywhere. It’s tiny, light, nimble, agile, easy to use and makes great images. I prefer it to anything similar from Canon because it handles faster. I prefer it to Nikon compacts because the Nikons have menus I can’t understand. I love it. Just get one and have a ball. The resolution is the same as my SLRs. Huge enlargements look great.

Casio’s EXilim EX-Z850 will make a great choice for anyone who wants or needs an “ultra- compact” model with loads of useful scene modes, 8-megapixels of resolution, and robust performance, all for a reasonable price. With the 8m Fine images, you’ll have plenty of resolution to create poster size prints, or photo-lab quality 13×19-inch prints of a cropped image.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z850 puts a ton of features into a compact and stylish body. And for not much money, either—this thing sells for about $325. It’s a capable performer, and a camera that I can recommend to just about everyone, save for those people who take a lot of night scenes. It’s not a perfect camera (but what is), but most people will really like what the Z850 offers.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z850 offers a lot more than most pocket sized digital cameras. It has a lot of features packed in including a fully manual exposure mode. It is easy to use and takes excellent photos indoors and outside. This is one for your short list. Recommended.

Digital Photography Review

In the final analysis, however, the EX-Z850 has more to recommend it than many sub-compact models – not least for the huge feature set (which will give you months of fun), and the comprehensive photographic control. It’s beautifully made, fast, has a stunning screen and is really enjoyable in use. It’s frustrating that Casio has come so near – and yet remained so far – from creating the perfect ‘serious’ sub-compact in both this model and its predecessor, but the fact remains that – in experienced hands – it still comes closer than any of its competitors.

Overall, the 8-megapixel Casio Z850 is a good candidate for budget consumers as the price continues to fall, but some of the camera’s shortcomings may be too much for many other consumers to take.

Overall, the Z850 is a pleasing camera with accurate colors, good white-balance, speedy operation and great battery life. Its main problem is a tendency to overexpose outdoor shots with a bright background.

Good Gear Guide

Overall the Z850 is a solid advanced camera. It doesn’t take the best photographs in the world, but it performed above average in most of our tests and crams a robust feature-set into a relatively small design.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z850 is a small, sleek, silver ultracompact that takes pretty good pictures, but I expected sharper image quality from an 8MP camera.
