Bottom line – the PowerShot G6 is an excellent camera. Definitely one that I would recommend without hesitation. With great image quality, powerful features, and robust performance it’s sure to please most every user. This is a camera that I am sure is going to be carried by enthusiasts and pros when they leave the bulky dSLR equipment behind.

This is a powerful photographic tool, and a pretty affordable one, relative to its exceptional capabilities. Also, while it’s clearly aimed at the “enthusiast” shooter, I should point out that (as is the case with most high-end digicam models) even complete novices will have no trouble using the G6 in its full auto mode.

Each round of improvements to Canon’s G series just makes it better. G5 owners may not be ready to upgrade; but with its great image quality and smooth controls, the G6 is very enticing.

This camera can do it all. And even if you’re planning to buy an SLR soon, you won’t regret owning the G6. It easily fits in a glove compartment, briefcase, or messenger bag. And you won’t really feel like you’re giving up much when you shoot with the G6 instead of an SLR. It’s a good compliment to a more professional camera.

It would seem that Canon has listened to users of previous G-Series cameras and implemented many improvements over the older models. This has culminated in a much slicker camera in terms of operation, a more compact and ergonomic body and a hike in both image size and quality over its forerunners.

If you want a high resolution camera without the noise and purple fringing issues of the 8MP models, this may be the right choice. Those with G5’s probably don’t need to rush out and upgrade, unless they really need that extra resolution or like the G6’s refined body design (I certainly do). The latest camera in Canon’s G-series gets a thumbs up from this reviewer.

The Canon Powershot G6 is a truly excellent camera. Image quality is great, handling is superb and it is full of powerful features that will be appreciated by advanced and professional photographers alike. The 7-megapixel images provide more than enough resolution to make superb A3 sized prints with nicely saturated colours and excellent detail.

This is a great upgrade from my G1. I’m shooting far better than ever with this camera. Hopefully in five more generations, the “G12” will incorporate my wishlist items. That would truly be the perfect camera.

This is really a great camera. For an amateur like me it is really easy to use. For a professional it still has all the settings of an SLR so you can have full control of the picture.

Digital Photography Review

The G6 isn’t quite perfect but the curious thing about this camera is that despite the fact that it doesn’t perform as well as the Sony DSC-V3 (our pick of the bunch) it does have the ability to win your favor by delivering consistently good images and drawing you into the photographic process more than you get from some other cameras.

The Powershot G6 has superior optics and can capture outstanding image quality. Shooting was a different matter – the PowerShot G6 tended to hesitate.

The G6 looks like it should be a terrific camera, but although the image quality is great and the specifications are impressive, not enough has been done to bring the camera’s responsiveness and controls up to date. It’s perfectly satisfactory if you’ve got time on your hands, but not when you want to shoot in a hurry.

With a sleeker, more ergonomic shape, a powerful optical zoom, and a multitude of pro-level features, the Canon PowerShot G6 is a stride ahead of its predecessor, the PowerShot G5.

A very good camera that needs a speed bump to pull ahead of the competition.

Pocket-lint

Although the G6 is not the most compact of digital compacts, is fairly pricey for the resolution and has more noise at higher ISOs than I’d like to see, it still packs in a huge amount of kit and has excellent handling and ergonomics. The superb lens helps record plenty of detail while the camera is particularly flexible thanks to the vari-angle LCD and versatile shooting tools.
